There are a number of instruments that we use to place our environmental policy on the right track.
We hold various environmental permits for all of our European establishments. The requirements of those permits are translated into the ISO 14001 system. The aim is to achieve the ISO 14001 level, an internationally recognised standard for environmental care within organisations, for all our production sites.
We maintain a yearly environmental Program.
In Germany and Sweden the production locations formulate their own environmental objectives on the basis of environmental law.
AVEBE is also a member of the European Starch Association, which conducts research into the best possible technologies for preventing environmental pollution caused by the starch industry.
We are also a member of the Sustainable Food foundation, a foundation of thirteen international companies including Heineken, Campina and Unilever, the aim of which is to promote sustainability in the foods chain.
Finally, for the Dutch locations, the following main topics have to be mentioned:
- We have signed the longterm Energy Agreement to become one of the world's most power-economical companies.
- There is also a Benchmarking Energy Efficiency Agreement, in order to become one of the world's most energy-economical companies. The studies arising from this also have an international tint.
- We have set up an maintain a certified management system for reduction and control of CO2 emission.
