In the first year the potato plants are tested in the field. The plants that do not have a good general appearance due to for example very long stolons, hardly any tubers, misformed tubers, etc., are thrown away. Six tubers of the clones selected in the first year are harvested and planted the next year. In that year the clones are selected based on characters like the number and shape of the tubers, length of the stolons and other common agricultural characters.
