New distribution centre at Avebe location Ter Apelkanaal reaches highest point

NewsMonday, 21 Sep 2020

Just before the summer a start was made with the construction of a new distribution centre at the Avebe production site in Ter Apelkanaal. On 9 September, during a short meeting with representatives of Avebe and the contractor Bouwgroep Noord, a ceremony was held to mark reaching the highest point.

Avebe’s Managing Director Operations Mark Tettelaar symbolically ‘nailed’ a metal pillar to the new building’s impressive steel structure.

This new storage location, which will cover an area of more than 20,000 square metres, will be able to store 35,000 pallets of products. This quadruples the total storage capacity at the Ter Apelkanaal location. The new distribution centre is being built next to the existing storage location and is expected to be taken into operation in May 2021.

‘Warehouse of the future’

The new distribution centre is being built according to sustainable standards. This new building will enable us to save 50,000 kilometres a year on freight transport because we no longer have to drive to different storage locations in the area. Also, there is no gas connection, low-maintenance materials are used, all lighting will be LED and the toilets are designed to save water. Nature has also been considered: biodiversity is created by means of water-compensation ditches. The transitions from land to water promote the natural development of flora and fauna. In short: this ‘distribution centre of the future’ is an ambitious, modern and sustainable project!
